The circumstances, potential responsibility, injury, and available records help frame an assessment. Let the firm know what documents you have; wait for instructions before sending them.
Understand the agreement.
If the firm can take the matter, the scope, fees, expenses, and responsibilities belong in a clear agreement. An initial inquiry alone does not establish representation.

Keep what you already have.
Let the firm know whether you have photographs, correspondence, an incident report, or treatment records. Keep the originals. You do not need to sort out their significance before the first conversation, and you should wait for instructions before sending files.
